2 Brief Introduction to the Technical Committee

The Technical Committee on Multimedia of the China Society for Image and Graphics (CSIG) currently has over 260 members, including nearly 70 national-level talents such as Distinguished Young Scholars, Excellent Young Scholars, and Yangtze River Scholars. Members are from more than 100 institutions, including domestic and foreign universities, research institutes, and enterprises (with overseas members from the United States, Japan, etc.). Since its establishment, the committee has successfully held various activities such as the CSIG Academic Conference on Multimedia Computing, the CSIG Frontier Forum on Intelligent Multimedia Analysis, the CSIG Frontier Workshop on Image and Graphics Disciplines, and the China Multimedia Conference, with increasing attractiveness and cohesion. The Technical Committee on Multimedia was awarded the Excellent Technical Committee of CSIG in 2020. It is committed to promoting the development of multimedia academia and industry, undertaking social services including technology promotion, frontier knowledge sharing, talent training, and academic exchanges.

Key Technologies of Polymorphic Primitive Coding and Decoding for Ultra-High Definition Video

Core Researchers: Gao Wen, Ma Siwei, Wang Ronggang, Wang Shanshe, Zhou Jiantong, Wang Ji

Award: Won the First-Class National Technical Invention Award in 2020

The project invented the technical system of polymorphic primitive coding and decoding for ultra-high definition video, took the lead in formulating the AVS series standards, filling the technical gap of China's video coding standards, and building an independent and controllable "technology-standard-chip-system" for coding and decoding. The technologies have been adopted by international standards such as the ITU-T IPTV Special Working Group, the International Ultra HD Alliance, and DVB, supporting the launch of CCTV's first 4K/8K ultra-high definition channel. During the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, it achieved the world's first 8K live broadcast and mobile broadcast of the Olympic Games, maintaining China's world-leading position in the field of ultra-high definition digital TV technology.
