2 Brief Introduction to the Technical Committee

The 21st century is the century of brain science. Brain mapping is the foundation for understanding the structure and function of the brain, and a frontier interdisciplinary field between image and graphics science and brain science. The Technical Committee on Brain Mapping of the China Society for Image and Graphics (CSIG) is positioned to promote the understanding of the organizational principles of brain structure and the laws of its information processing, deepen the guiding role of brain science in brain-inspired intelligence research, spawn new breakthroughs in the interdisciplinary integration of brain science, brain-inspired intelligence and other disciplines, and enhance China's research level and disciplinary leading position in this field.

5 Representative Achievements

1) Mapping, Validation and Application of Brainnetome Atlas

Core Researchers: Jiang Tianzi, Yu Chunshui, Fan Lingzhong, Zhuo Junjie

Award: Won the First-Class Natural Science Award of Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Award in 2020

The project carried out systematic research on the mapping method, validation system and application paradigm of the human Brainnetome Atlas. It broke through the bottleneck of traditional brain mapping, proposed a new idea of "using brain connectivity information" to map the Brainnetome Atlas, established a theoretical and methodological system for drawing a new generation of brain atlases, and successfully mapped a brand-new in-vivo whole-brain connectivity atlas that is 4 to 5 times more detailed than traditional brain atlases. A comprehensive brain atlas validation system and application paradigm have also been established. The Brainnetome Atlas will lay a solid foundation for clarifying the structural and functional abnormalities of neural circuits in brain diseases and developing a new generation of diagnosis and treatment technologies.

2) Mapping of the Human Brainnetome Atlas

Core Researchers: Jiang Tianzi, Fan Lingzhong, Yu Chunshui, Wang Jiaojian, Cui Yue

Award: Won the Second-Class Science and Technology Award of the China Society for Image and Graphics in 2018

The successfully mapped first version of the human Brainnetome Atlas is a brand-new brain atlas that has both more detailed brain region division and different anatomical and functional connectivity patterns of subregions compared with existing brain atlases. This atlas includes 246 fine-grained brain subregions and multi-modal connectivity patterns between brain subregions. It breaks through the traditional brain mapping ideas of more than 100 years, introduces a new idea and method for fine division of brain regions and brain mapping using brain anatomical and functional connectivity information, and is 4-5 times more detailed than the traditional Brodmann atlas with objective and accurate boundary localization. It is the first time that a human whole-brain connectivity atlas at the macro scale has been established. The Brainnetome Atlas will provide a new method for revealing the neural basis of brain cognitive functions, a new tool for precise diagnosis and treatment of brain diseases, and new inspiration for the design of brain-inspired intelligent systems.
